Ecology Action Brand Development
Ecology Action is a nonprofit environmental business that focuses their effort in reducing carbon emissions by providing large-scale energy efficiency programs in the western US states. Their aim is to reduce the overall number of kilowatt hours that commercial businesses use, by updating old, inefficient lighting, heating and ventilation units, air conditioners, and refrigeration systems. I worked as Creative Director over the past several years in a rebranding effort, along with creating multiple campaigns to help small business owners benefit from significant rebates available to them.
WEBSITE DESIGN + DEVELOPMENT
We recently updated our website to reflect a completely new direction in the organization. Originally, we were positioning ourselves as a mission-driven nonprofit, reaching out to philanthropists with a heavy environmental message. When PG&E announced its bankruptcy, we realized that we needed to rethink our positioning. We decided to lead with a more commerce-based message to appeal to for-profit, commercial businesses. We led with the message, “We used to call it sustainability. Now we just call it: GOOD BUSINESS.
EXPLAINER VIDEO DEVELOPMENT
I concepted, illustrated and storyboarded this video to explain how Carl’s Jr. could save millions nationwide by upgrading to energy efficient technologies.
50TH ANNIVERSARY BRANDING
2020 marks Ecology Action’s 50th anniversary, born on the very first Earth Day in 1970. To honor this, we created marks and illustrations that reflect our environmental spirit, while focused squarely on the future of positive climate action.
ENERGY PROGRAM BRANDING
We created a program to work directly with customers, rather than the current model of working through the utilities. We called this program Energy Connect.
BIKE WEEK BRANDING
In addition to the energy efficiency programs, Ecology Action is responsible for the annual Bike Week and Bike to Work Day, which started 33 years ago. It was one of the first of its kind in the US.
BIKE SMART BRANDING
Bike Smart is a bike education program that teaches elementary school kids the importance of safety on two wheels. This program had very little visual attention, so I determined to breathe some life into it, and give it the cool factor it needed.
